The XRS 9670 has the all-new Xtreme Range Superheterodyne Technology that detects all 15 radar/laser bands with its completely new super-fast lock-on detection circuitry.  You can be sure that the unit will provide you with extra detection range and the best possible advance warning. The advance warning system includes even the fastest POP mode radar guns. Other notable features include DigiView Text Display, an 8-point electronic compass to name a few.

Radar and Laser Detections

The XRS 9670 is undetectable by police Spectre 1 and VG-2 radar detector detectors. Not only is it undetectable but it also alerts you if such a device is in use near your vehicle. While alerting, it also keeps looking for other detectors it can find. Users can also turn off your unit to not show VG-2 Alerts.

Band Detection

The XRS 9670 detects from a wide variety of bands that include 7 radar, 6 laser, and 2 safety signals. Radar signals include VG-2, Spectre I along with the X Band, K Band, Ka Superwide, Ku Band, and Spectre IV+. Laser signals include LTI 20-20, Ultra Lyte, ProLaser, ProLaser III, Stalker LIDAR and Speedlaser. Safety signals include Safety Alert and Strobe Alert. The detector has got you covered from all sides as the cops in the U.S usually use such signals to check vehicle speed.

XRS 9670 can detect from a couple of radar detector detectors (RDDs) that include the Spectre I and Spectre IV+ RDD. The detector is invisible to Spectre I RDDs, however, it can be detected by Spectre IV+ RDDs.

IntelliMute Pro is another feature that the radar detector comes with which will make your detector undetectable by currently available radar detector-detectors.

We also have a SmartPower feature which, when activated, will put the unit into standby mode for about 30 minutes after the car’s engine has been turned off. After 30 minutes in Standby mode, the unit will automatically turn itself off.

Users also have a couple of modes which they can switch between City and Highway. These operating modes help in reducing the frequency of falsing in densely populated urban areas. Intellishield is another technology the detector comes with that includes a Highway mode and three different levels of City modes. First is the City X mode which sounds a single beep when the signal is first detected.

The XRS 9670 comes with an excellent display which provides great visibility even in sunlight. It comes with a Bright display mode and three levels of Dim display modes (Dim for dusk driving, Dimmer for night driving and Dark where no visual alerts will be displayed) to control the display’s brightness levels.

Radar Guns Detection

Strobe Alert

A Cobra exclusive feature that works with tens of thousands of emergency vehicles. This provides an advance warning of the presence and/or approach of emergency vehicles.

Safety Alert

This feature alerts drivers of incoming emergency vehicles, and road hazard locations equipped with Cobra’s exclusive Safety Alert transmitters.

Electronic Memory

The Cobra XRS 9670 remembers the settings even after it shuts down. The XRS 9670 detector includes an internal 8-point Compass that displays your current direction of travel. You will also need to calibrate the Compas first to use it. At first, the Compass might not provide accurate results. This can be due to the device being inside a building or enclosure. Once in an open space, the device should show accurate results.

Mounting the Radar Detector

Mounting the radar detector in the center as low as possible will make controlling the detector a lot easier. Also, make sure that the detector's lens is not be blocked and the LaserEye has a clear view out the back window to allow for 360° detection.

Other features

All user mode settings on your detector can be changed by using Program mode. Also, the detector will make different sounds based on the type of signal detected.

The XRS 9670 is a good alternative for other mid-range detectors out there but fails to compete with other high-end detectors available in the market. Also, the X band alert coming on and off can be very annoying at times. Even the IntelliShield false signal rejection doesn’t seem to work that well and fails to reject signals on a number of occasions. If you don't like the XRS 9670 for obvious reasons and would like to look at some other similar radar detectors you might want to check out the Escort Passport 8500X50 or the Whistler CR85.
